This completely separate simulation is unique. Its aim is to visualize the x-ray beam for students. It does this by presenting a ‘spectrum’ in graphical form, which changes shape instantly with any change in exposure factor or equipment choice.

Previous explanations of the effect of exposure parameters have been based on the density of film. This is no longer applicable in the digital modalities. TechnicVR allows tutors and students a first hand demonstration of exposure parameter effects on the x-ray beam falling on their patients. It also models the heating effects the electrical energy has on the x-ray tube, based on real ratings.

It is suitable for installation in a variety of locations on the campus and requires the minimum possible computer specification; screen resolution should be XGA (1024 x 768). It is intended for use with a projector.

Students can work through the workbook at their own pace as a support for classroom activities, or tutors can enliven their presentations with real time changes to the x-ray spectrum with larger student groups.

Features include:

  • Illuminating demonstration of x-ray tube heating and cooling; visualized by dynamic temperature gauges
  • Graphical updates in real time to the x-ray spectrum
  • A wide variety of x-ray procedures including; mammography, fluoroscopy, dental, and general radiography.
  • Target material includes Tungsten, Molybdenum and Rhodium.
  • Easy manipulation of exposure parameters including; kV, mA, s, mAs, SID
  • The control panel settings for all units are based on those of real manufacturers, students can actually learn the limits and constraints of real machines.
